We have a beautiful 2-story, 4 bedroom, 3 1/2 bath home on one of the largest inland lake/river systems in Wisconsin. The master suite has a king bed, private bathroom with shower and jacuzzi tub, a 36" TV and overlooks the lake and our nearly 1 acre yard shaded by huge maple trees. The two other bedrooms on the upper level are furnished with a loft twin bed and a queen bed, and both bedrooms also overlook the yard and lake. Those two bedrooms share a full bathroom equipped with a tub/shower. An upper-level laundry room completes the 2nd floor. On the first floor is a spacious kitchen equipped with electric stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher, and two refrigerator/freezers. There is seating for 4 in the kitchen at one of the counters along the edge. There is a powder room right off the kitchen, and you access the attached 2-car garage from the kitchen. A large living room/dining room/sun room takes up most of the south side of the house, and 3 full-view sliding glass doors open out into the backyard and overlook the lake. The dining room table can comfortably seat 8 people, and overlooks the lake, as well as being directly off of the kitchen. The sunroom area has 2 love seats with an oversized ottoman between them to relax with your feet up as you look out at the lake. The living room area has a full-sized sofa, a love seat, and a recliner in addition to a gas fireplace and a 36" HDTV, ultra-high fidelity stereo, DVD and VCR. Also on the main floor are the 4th bedroom, equipped with a queen bed, an office with a queen sofa sleeper and wi-fi access, and another full bathroom with tub/shower. The finished basement has a full set of free weights and a media room with 60" TV, DVD, VCR and surround-sound stereo. The 400 sqft boathouse right on the lakeshore is used as a rec room with dry bar, mini fridge, dartboard, TV and stereo. A brick path leads from the brick patio directly to the boathouse. There's always a breeze off the lake in the summer.
Our house is in a semi-rural area with about 20 houses on our street, all along the lakeshore, and a farm field directly across the street from our house. The neighbors are friendly, and most everyone has a dog. There are quite a few elderly couples on our street, and about 6 families with children. It is easy and safe to take walks along our road and the connecting county roads - not much traffic goes by. The state highway that takes you into the metropolitan area is only a 2 minute drive away from our house, providing easy access to the restaurants, shopping, and activities of the cities nearby. The small town (2000 people) where our children attend school is 4 miles from our home and has a full-service grocery store, several restaurants, gas stations, video rental, and hair salons. It is spans a major river that is host to lots of boat and fishing traffic whenever there isn't ice! The lake our house is on is great for fishing, swimming and boating, but the lake is only about 12 feet at its deepest point...much of it is only 4-6 feet deep. We have a 100' pier on our property that you can use, but it is too shallow to dive off of (only 3-4 feet deep). While you can swim in front of our house, it is rather weedy and there are lots of sharp shells and rocks on the bottom, so we usually boat over to the other side of the lake (about 1.5 miles) and swim at a sandy-bottomed area where everyone meets to swim and anchor their boats. There's also a public swimming beach in our little town that's great for families with smaller children. Small fishing boats are available for rent in our town, and if you want a larger boat, there are many marinas in the area. There is an enclosed shopping mall about 25 minutes from us that has all the major stores, and many of the popular chain restaurants are within a 20 minute ride from us. The world-famous Experimental Aircraft Association HQ is only 20 min. away, and the local airport is only 25 minutes from us.
We have two teenage children and two labrador retreivers that keep us very busy. We are both professionals, and enjoy boating, snowmobiling, and biking when we're outdoors. Our whole family loves to read and to travel, and we've taken many trips througout the United States, Canada and Mexico, and recently explored the Mediterranean. We grew up in the Midwest (Chicago and rural Minnesota) and really love living in Wisconsin - we all enjoy the change of seasons and weather and can't imagine living in a single-climate area. We lived in New York City for 3 years during graduate school and loved the hustle and bustle and all the opportunities, but are happy to be raising our family in a smaller, more family-friendly environment. We travel often, going up to our cabin in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan regularly. We also enjoy visiting our friends in Florida at least once a year, and try to plan one major family trip to somewhere new each year, when our schedules allow. Our kids are both very musical, playing piano, guitar, drums and singing in the choir at school. We enjoy attending their sporting events (volleyball and football) and concerts - they tend to keep us extremely busy in the fall! We're excited about the possibility of exploring some new parts of the world through a home exchange, and look forward to hearing from you.
