About our home

We built our home in 1990. We have a large swimming pool, and 3 acres of land. All of our children are grown and we are beginning to think about retirement. We plan to keep our family home so we have plenty of room, including a grandchildren's room with a crib and single bed. The master bathroom has recently been upgraded with a large modern shower, without a threshold and meets ADA handicapp requirements. Our home has been maintained and is immaculately clean.

Our location is rural, while at the same time, we are considered to be in the Washington D.C/Baltimore metropolitan area. We are about 30 miles from both cities. Even closer is historic Annapolis, Md. and Alexandria, Va. and other quaint east coast towns. In addition we are about 1.5-2 hours from sunny East Coast beaches.

There is a plethora of museums, first class restaurants, opera, concert halls, and historic sites. We are about 45 minutes from George Washington's house, the Navel Academy, the Smithsonian, the White House and more.

We have only one grandchild who lives with my son and his wife in Portland, Oregon. Our first choice for a swap is Portland, Oregon; Seattle, Washington; Oregon beaches or Washington/Oregon/ Canadian mountains. We would also love to visit Europe or South America.

More about us

  1. Our son works as an architect and lives with his wife and young son in Portland, Oregon. We would love to trade houses for a summertime vacation in Portland, Oregon. Although Portland, Oregon is our first choice because it is located so close to our son we would also love to vacation in another area of the country or Europe or South America.

  2. All our children are grown. I am retired, and my husband Russ will retire in two years. Russ is a branch chief/electrical engineer. I worked for the school system before my retirement a few years ago. My favorite hobby is knitting and taking long walks. I love to read classic fiction and nonfiction -- especially history. We have a large library which I am sure houseguests enjoy.

  3. In addition to our son who lives in Portland, we have another grown son who works as a materials engineer in Maryland. We also have a daughter who graduated from college the summer of 2012. She lives in Philadelphia and works as an editor and writer.
