About our home

This house looks out on the Nestucca River's best fishing hole. Bring your salmon/steelhead and surf gear and plan to fish from the beach in front of the house. The interior is finely finished all in fine wood with no sheet rock. There are teak floors, fir trim, and Alaskan yellow cedar walls, and teak counters. The natural wood requires care but mostly it must be kept dry after use. Living room furniture is northern European and very comfortable. Curl up with a book. There is a DVD but no cable and no TV reception, walk to the coffee shop for internet. The 3 bedrms have 2 queen beds and 2 twins, all good quality mattresses. The bathrooms offer a shower or a bath/shower combo. It is a shoes off inside house, no smoking or pets place. The kitchen is designed with room for everyone to pitch in and cook. There is a deck overlooking the River toward the setting sun and another deck to sip your coffee in the morning sun. After you arrive you will be walking to restaurants, bars, beach, charter companies, etc., we seldom drive after we arrive. The house is 2 hrs from Portland and is centered on the best of the Oregon coast for hiking, fishing, prowling the galleries or just relaxing in comfort. People describe Pacific City as "A quaint drinking town with a fishing problem" This is the last place on the West Coast where there is both a commercial and sport fishing fleet launching directly into the surf off the beach. Not for the faint, but in season the charter boats typically bring in limits of crab, halibut, rock fish, lingcod, salmon, or tuna that make the charter cost an access to cheap fresh fish. Check out the net for "Dory fishing Pacific City" If the seas are too rough there are 7 of Oregon's best fishing rivers within less than 1 hr drive to chose from.

Pacific City is really just a small village with one stop light, a few pubs & restaurants and cafes, a good library, beautiful beach walks, horseback riding, hang gliding, fishing, crabbing, surfing(bring your wet suit) hiking, biking, or birdwatching. Pacific City is a very short drive to Oregon's famous wine country. You can find a good meal but if it is night life you want you may have to settle for an excellent locally brewed beer at the Pelican Brewery and Pub and make your own noise. This place is a fisherman's paradise that is very family friendly. Our house on the river and is toward the end of a quiet dead end street.

We are semi retired and have owned an import/export exotic timber business specializing in musical instrument woods. We are both interested in art, fishing, travel, bird watching, hiking, and music. We often enjoy traveling with another couple. We are in our mid to late 60's and will respect your property as we will expect you to respect ours. We are flexible with our dates and locations and the trade does not need to be simultaneous.
