Our Florida home is located on a quiet street in Port Charlotte. We have owned this 3 bedroom 2 bathroom house for 16 years and recently updated the entire house inside. What we love about our house is getting up and sliding open the 12 ft glass doors to the completly screened in swimming pool. The pool area is where we live, eat most meals and barbeque. The kitchen includes all modern conveniences, stove, fridge, microwave, toaster oven, and a freezer in the gargage, and of course the all important beer fridge. The living area has two leather sofa's and a 46 inch TV with a VCR and DVD player. There is also a computer desk and internet service so you can stay in touch with home. (Bring your own computer). The house is both air conditioned and heated. The master bedroom has a queen size bed and attached bathroom with shower. The other two bedrooms at the other end of the house share a bathroom. One has a queen size bed and the other 2 single beds. We have an orange, grapefruit and lime tree's, to pick your own fruit.
When we purchased our home in Port Charlotte it was because of the following reasons. Safe, very little crime in the area. excellent shopping, and excellent health care facilities. We are located in a quiet suburban neighbourhood with excellent neighbours. There are 75 golf courses within an hours drive. Yes I said 75! The beach is approximatley 5 minutes by car and is a lovely beach with boat access, it also offers boche ball, horseshoes, tennis and basketball courts.but if you want the big waves, Englewood is 30 minutes away. If you enjoy walking, whether it be the neighbourhood or we have a walking park 1 block away, that has exercise stations throughout. Shopping is excellent with in a 10 minute drive and if you want to visit any of Florida's major attractions, they are all approximately 2 hrs away. (Disney World, Universal Studios, Busch Gardens, everglades Nation Park,Tampa, or Miami). The weather in our area, ranges from the low 70's to the mid 80's all winter. Of course you can have a few colder days. Rain fall is usually less than 2 inches per month from October to May. Overall it is a wonderful area to live in during the winter months.
Ken and Beth Simpkins are our names. We are both retired professionals. I owned my own business and my wife was a teacher for 30 years. We have a family of 4 children and now have 4 grand children. They all live in Canada, where we spend our summers at our home in Bobcaygeon, Ontario. We have a lovely home there on Sturgeon Lake where we enjoy boating, fishing, swimming and gardening. I have just finished building our house there and am now starting to remodel the cottage, which in the future we will offer on the home exchange. We have always dreamed of spending some time in Austrailia, and New Zealand. The ideal situation for us would be to arrange about 3 home exchanges in different areas of Austrailia, so we can travel and see as much as possible.
