About our home

Our home is a lovely townhouse in Cascadia Commons Cohousing. The kitchen is modern, fully equipped, and opens into the dining/living room. The living room has a DVD/VHS player with an extensive collection of movies. Sliding glass doors open into a forest view. The kitchen window looks out to a central courtyard with playground, grass, gardens, and outdoor dining.

The upstairs has two bedrooms. The main bedroom has a full-sized bed and an office nook, which includes a computer with high speed internet access. The children's bedroom has two twin beds, toys, and a large collection of family games. We also have a comfortable self-inflating queen-size mattress. There is a bathroom with tub and shower upstairs and a bathroom with toilet and sink downstairs. We have an extensive book collection, featuring world literature, philosophy, and children's books.

Our car is a 1999 Ford Taurus, can seat five, and would be available for use. We also have bicycles which could be used.

Cascadia Commons Cohousing is a diverse, safe, and friendly community with a large common house. Our neighbors are friendly, helpful, and would enjoy meeting you. A cohousing community is a condominium complex that's designed to encourage community and social interaction while still preserving the privacy of your own home. You can consult the website ( for more information. Cascadia Commons is situated in a quiet forested residential neighborhood, close to shopping, and a ten minute drive to downtown Portland. We are a five minute walk to a bus stop with direct service to downtown.

Portland is a nature lover's playground, filled with parks, biking and hiking trails, rivers, lakes, and beautiful vistas. It also offers all the benefits of a large urban center, including museums, concerts, plays, and fine dining. It also hosts Powell's Books, the largest independent book store in North America, and a free international rose garden. Children would especially enjoy the large Oregon Zoo, which is only a five minute drive away, as well as the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry, which is among the best in the nation. Portland is one of the most environmentally friendly cities in America. It has a thriving downtown, with a lengthy riverfront park and free public transportation. Portland also has a light rail system, with a station two miles from Cascadia Commons.

The beautiful Oregon coast is only a little more than an hour away. Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Hood are each within a two hours drive. The many waterfalls of the Columbia River Gorge are only a half hour away.

Silas, age 37, teaches philosophy and history and loves reading, cooking, bicycling, and gardening. Rhonda, age 38, is a special education teacher, as well as a classical musician and creative writer. Our sons Peter, age 10, and Joseph, age 6, are delightful and intelligent boys. They enjoy reading, going to museums and parks, and exploring new places. We enjoy family adventures together and look forward to experiencing new cultures.

Silas knows some French, but not enough to speak it smoothly. He's much better at reading it. Rhonda can speak German fairly well and can speak Spanish OK.
