Our little town is in the area straight from Western movies - old mining town. Just like you've imagined! The residents, mostly generations of locals keep the town authentic.
The pace is slow and relaxing here. Even though the town, being a tourist hot spot during the summer months, swells tenfold, the energy and pace does not change.
When you come there, you halt to a stop. Your heartbeat slows down, you start breathing deeper and meaningfully (well, you might not have a choice due to an almost 5 thousand feet elevation above the sea level), and you actually relax.
During summer evenings, even though it is hard to leave our home with unbeatable views, you should try and get down into town.
If you don't want to drive or walk, take a local taxi into town (it is about 6 minute drive). When you slide down into town, besides the local cowboys, you'll see a lot of Harley's and sophisticated off-road BMW's and KLR's (which you can rent in-town). filling out the local Western bars, sophisticated and family-owned restaurants, cafes and pubs.
And, did I mention shopping? Montana does not have a sales tax, and Billings (an hour away) offers plenty opportunities to spend money.
The town is big on art. There are multiple galleries in town, and you won't be able to resist getting some memorabilia or gorgeous collectibles, which can be shipped by whichever carrier you choose.
If you are an outdoor person, the Beartooth Wilderness area is close by, and offers unlimited hiking, fishing, camping and equestrian opportunities. Yellowstone National Park is just 65 miles over the lofty Beartooth Pass, named one of the most scenic drives in the USA, and the rodeo town of Cody, Wyoming is an hour south.
And be sure to visit our local wild animal rescue facility, where you can actually see most of the local animals and birds (who were rescued and could not be returned to wilderness for whatever reasons).
There is a very well maintained, picturesque 18-hole golf course and a nearby ski resort (for winter months). The Beartooth Wilderness area is close by, and offers unlimited hiking, fishing, camping and equestrian opportunities.
Our town, Red Lodge is served by a large municipal airport in Billings, (BIL) for an easy 1-hour fly-in/out to main hubs like Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Denver, Salt Lake City. Or, you can fly-in in your private small plane or a helicopter. Our airport in Red Lodge would be happy to accommodate you.
NOW ABOUT OUR HOUSE:
Our gem is located above the town itself, which is cuddled up in the former river bank. Therefore, it has unobstructed views of the mountains, a really big sky, and dramatic sunrises and sunsets.
It is a 5-minute drive down to the town and away from the tourists and roaring motorcycles, heading towards the curvy mountain road, and is great for relaxation due to forcefully induced change of pace, which you grow to love very quickly :)
The house has everything for your convenience: comfortable beds, 1 shower and 1 bathtub, fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer, comfortable seating areas, which is a must, as one entire side of the house is covered with large windows.
Just to give you a taste of our home, here are some of our favorite moments:
You wake up early in the morning to a pink, colored by the rising sun mountain, clearly visible from the main bedroom. Grub a coffee, go outside, and listen to the bird shenanigans and excited sprinklers.
Or, you are in one of the other bedrooms. You feel the pleasant warmth on your face. You open your eyes and see the room covered in yellow unrealistic glow from rising on the horizon young sun. You hurry up and get yourself situated on the front door steps (or comfy chairs) to be greeted by nature.
If you are not yet sold, here is another scenario, now for the evening hours: You are tired from all the day activities. Had a nice dinner in town, and now ready to stretch out on the back patio with some tapas and a glass of wine to watch a beautiful sunset. Curious deer and resident birds wonder around and check you out. They are not afraid. They feel safe being around. Occasionally a friendly neighbor drives by, and waves a hello to you with his cowboy hat. In the distant background - happy children are laughing, music is playing on rodeo grounds, and a gentle warm breeze appeared out of nowhere and caresses you.
Well, hopefully you got a taste of what this place is for us when we come there from California. It is a piece of a heaven for outdoor-oriented people, who enjoy the simpler and much slower pace of life.
