About our home

A new home in 2007. 2200 SF on two levels on a wooded 3-acre lot with a shared private lake. The main level (master suite, living area, kitchen, large deck) is elevated in the trees, and there is a walk-out basement (bedroom, bath, laundry, screened porch). No phones and only one TV station means peace and quiet rule (cell phones work OK and there is an integrated sound system for music and radio). Modern appliances, large picture windows overlooking the woods and lake, and a fireplace provide comfort year-round. Secluded lake enjoyment enhanced by a small fishing boat and electric motor, fishing dock, kayaks, and a water-side screened porch. Bird-lovers will enjoy these common sightings from the comfort of the living-room leather sofa:
cardinals, waxwings, goldfinches, nuthatches, herons, woodpeckers, robins.

More about us

  1. We are Christy and Mike, married professionals in our mid-forties. We are tech-savvy enough to survive in the 21st century, but prefer an uncluttered lifestyle and simple comforts. Most weekends are spent reading, birding, swimming, fishing, and hiking with our dog, Cajun. We envision exchanging homes with city dwellers, so that we can enjoy the theatre, ethnic dining, and "buzz", while offering quiet, solitude, and relaxation.

Where is it?

Sixty miles southwest of Chicago, and six miles southeast of Morris, IL in a semi-rural area of country and lake homes sprinkled amongst the fields of corn and beans. Nearby is Goose Lake Prairie State Park for hiking and birding (sighted in 2007: woodcocks, pelicans, sanhill crane). Among the many possible bike routes is the 60-mile I&M Canal, accessible in Morris, which offers quiet, shade, relative solitude and safety. Morris itself is a historic and charming old canal town, and the County Seat of prosperous Grundy County; there is a thriving downtown and some nice dining and shopping choices with local flavor. Overall, the area provides a nice mix of an almost resort-type atmosphere and and a thriving local agricultural economy.
