About our home

Our 100-year-old home has been completely renovated -- modern amenities alongside beautifully restored wood trim and details. The main floor features an open kitchen, living room, dining room, and bathroom; upstairs has two bedrooms, a study, and another bathroom. Generous porch in front and small deck in back for outdoor lounging, plus a small green backyard. We're on quiet street of single-family homes, but within easy walking distance of a bustling commercial center. (Our photos show the home as it was staged just before we bought it, and they slightly exaggerate the size; we'll soon be posting updated photos that show our own furniture and more realistic proportions.)

The neighborhood, Ballard, is a walker's paradise. Within just 10 or 15 minutes, you can walk to: literally dozens of bars and restaurants, ranging from hip offerings by top Seattle chefs to friendly dives; independent coffeehouses (and a Starbucks too); stylish and quirky shops selling clothes, housewares, décor, books; a movie theater; a library; a post office; a drug store; three grocery stores; and, on Sundays, a great farmers market. One mile straight west from the house and you have a beautiful view of Puget Sound and its many sailboats, with the Olympic Mountains in the distance. Another mile gets you to Golden Gardens beach. And whenever you need to get downtown, a frequent "RapidRide" bus is just two blocks away, ready to take you five miles south to the Space Needle or Pike Place Market.

More about us

  1. We're a happily childfree couple -- one American and one Brit. We travel to the U.K. often to visit family and are particularly interested in a swap in London (or maybe the New Forest).

  2. We're big readers; our house is full of contemporary fiction, plus we subscribe to The New Yorker, The Atlantic, House Beautiful, Dwell ...

  3. Our walls are green and our ethics are too.
