Our home is a 3 level house on a beautifully landscaped large lot in a quiet subdivision a few blocks from our adorable, historic town. The house was custom built, and is a lovely mix of contemporary and traditional.
The daylight basement consists of a huge laundry/mudroom, shop and an apartment that supports independent living (a large bedroom with living area and its own travertine bathroom).
Going up the stairs, you will find the living room, which is filled with light from a wall of windows looking out onto the garden. Art and technology fill the room, with build-in Bose surround system, flat-screen television, and complete audio integration.
French doors lead out to the extensive wrap-around deck, which is partially covered. A full size custom-made barbecue/smoker is available.
The computer/media room adjoins (we use Macs), including a digital piano and a plethora of bookshelves filled with books. The desk and counters are Iberian granite.
The formal dining room hosts a Blue Pearl granite table, with a custom art chandelier overhead.
The kitchen is graced with Blue Barracuda granite, an eating bar and a breakfast nook in a bay window. Counter space and cabinets are extensive. Gas stove, dishwasher, disposal and deep sink. Storm travertine marble tiles the floor throughout.
The travertine marble entry leads out to the main doorway, with slate-lined stairs leading through the front garden to the front of the house.
Upstairs is lined with a dramatic metal railing overlooking the living room. Two smaller bedrooms are ready for children, and the large master suite has a deep jet tub and separate shower. Huge walk-in closet, with bay window reading area, as well as marble desk. The kid's separate bath is tiled with custom sea-world creatures.
Silverton is a village of 7000, and is fast becoming known for its thriving arts community, as well as for its small-town charm and beauty. It is a short 15-minute walk downtown, where charming shops, cafes and restaurants line the streeets. A city park is filled with mature trees, and the municipal pool is over the bridge (Silver Creek runs through the town).
A 15-mile drive puts you at Silver Falls State Park, one of the most visited sites in Oregon, where a 7-mile hike takes you through a wooded paradise graced with seven distinct waterfalls. A historic lodge and cafe makes a nice end to a gorgeous day.
We live across the road from the Oregon Gardens, and it is a short one-hour plus drive to the amazing Oregon Coast as well as to Mt. Hood. The Columbia Gorge, on the national historic register, is a drive one hour away that should definitely not be missed.
Downtown Portland is a 55-minute drive, and its restaurant scene has received national attention. Portland, a city of 1.1 million, is a thriving cultural center, and growth has been phenomenal in the last 10 years.
Oregon wines have received much media attention, and the famous Dundee wine growing area with its extensive network of vineyards and restaurants, is a mandatory trip 1 1/2 hours to the Northwest.
Seattle, of course, is a short 3 1/2 hour drive, and the San Juan islands are easily accessed by ferry from there.
Our home region, the Pacific Northwest, is easily one of the great natural wonders in all the United States.... Come see, experience and enjoy!
We are a family of five, headed by myself, a 39-year old English teacher. I teach Advanced English at the local high school, and my children attend Silverton schools. We love gardening and sports, with the children participating in soccer, swimming, theater and music. Art is a pasttime we all enjoy, and I specialize in digital imaging/Photoshop as well. Our home is filled with art and images of our own creation!
Our neighborhood is filled with wonderful people who are our friends: all are professional people or retired, and the area is extremely quiet and restful.
Our garage is filled with sports equipment available for your use: bikes, rollerblades, skateboards, balls, etc. An active life is a happy life!
