About our home

Five year old stilted house, wrap around deck, outside shower, walk or drive on beach. Spacious, open floor plan, light, clean, feels like a treehouse. 2 bedroms, 2 full baths, Pergo floors, bright colors, artwork displayed. Air conditioning, satellite hookup, internet. Lying in the screen porch hammock, looking at the tropical landscape, feeling the Ocean breeze is an afternoon favorite of ours. Dining at kitchen counter, great room, screen porch or table and chairs on deck are choices depending on the weather. Cars are parked beneath the house.

Ungated community, 10 minute walk to the beach or 1 minute drive. Vehicles allowed on the beach. Long walks on the beach, walks to intracoastal. Sidewalks for miles for walking, biking. Located on Anastasia Island, south of St Augustine, NE Florida, Atlantic Ocean. Many excellent beach restaurants on the Island within long walk or bike or short drive distance. Historic sites, restaurants, shopping 10 minutes by car downtown. We enjoy sunsets and sunrises from the wrap around deck or from the beach or intracoastal. Yard xeriscaped yard with palms, banana grove, hibiscus, and scented jasmine and gingers. Mixed age neighborhood, some school age children, some retirees. Automobile required.

Retired, English speaking couple, moved to St Augustine after vacationing from Michigan for many years. We bought a condo first, and then this house. Gardening in Florida is a dream come true and I have transformed the yard in the 2 years we have lived here. I still work part time as a hospice social worker and my husand is retired Ford Motor Company executive. His retirement job is supervisor of beach tolltaking services as there is a charge to drive on the beach from March thru August, although walking onto the beach is always free. It has been wonderful living on this ever changing barrier island, becoming attuned to the Ocean rhythms as well as informing ourselves about issues such as the endangered Right Whales and Green and Loggerhead Turtles. We love this part of Florida and enjoy the informal, beachy, small town atmosphere, artists, historic downtown, and great restaurants. We do not fish, but there are many wonderful fishing venues. We also take short excursions to other parts of Florida...although home is our favorite. Living in this house in this place is like a year round vacation.
