About our home

Located on a gorgeous sea island outside of Charleston, South Carolina, Sullivan's Island is one of the few residential beaches in the US. and one of the least crowded. A five mile long beach on one side offers great swimming, picnicing, fishing, wind surfing, surfing and strolling while the marsh side offers crabbing, kayaking, boating and unique views. The house is less than a five minute walk to the ocean. Spacious with an open floor plan, it is filled with light and surrounded by screened porches, sun decks and verandas that face the ocean and also the opposite street which is lined with historic mansions from the island's history as a Revolutionary and Civil War fort. Up the street is historic Fort Moultrie where Edgar Allan Poe was a soldier. Many streets are named for Poe and the famous Goldbug tree is a local landmark. The island is cherished by its 2000 residents who enjoy the atmosphere by biking, jogging and riding golf carts, and who congregate in the small commercial area on the island that has fabulous sea food restaurants and bars with live music as well as beautiful parks with tennis courts, playgrounds and ball fields. The cosmopolitan and scenic city of Charleston is about 15 minutes away, reached by a short bridge from the island. Charleston has gained a reputation as a culinary capital and the historic architecture draws tourists from around the world who enjoy strolling the streets and indulging in the rich artistic scene that includes theaters, art galleries and special events of many types, most notably Spoleto Festival USA in May/June. Charleston has also been voted the friendliest city in the US several times and is notable for being one of the sunniest places in the country.
