Our contemporary mountain home is two stories with lots of light, decks back and front and upstairs, a hot tub and garage. No need for AC because we have huge trees for shade and the evenings even in the summer are cool. The living room has a vaulted ceiling and is open to the dining area and kitchen. One bedroom has bunks for the kids. The master has a king size bed and the other two rooms have queens. There is a hide-a-bed sofa in the living room.
Our home is in Sunriver , a resort in central Oregon close to skiing, biking, kayaking, and bird-watching. Miles and miles of paved bike paths are outside our doorstep. The Deschutes River is a 5 minute walk away where there is a beautiful view of Mt. Bachelor, which is a world-class ski resort and summertime playground. A new swim center is a 10 minute bike ride from the house. It has indoor and outdoor pools, a lazy river, land and water slides, kiddy pool and sand box for the little ones, and large hot tub. The resort also offers two golf courses, tennis courts, playgrounds, a small shopping village, and a nice variety of restaurants. Smith Rock, famous for its rock-climbing and hiking trails, is an hour drive. Another nice drive in the summer is around Mt. Bachelor where you can stop at multiple lakes and kayak or canoe. There is a new bike trail that will take you through Bureau of Land Management land to Benham Falls on the Deschutes River. It is a ferocious waterfall, not navigable, but wonderful for viewing. With mountain bikes (that can be rented at the village) you can ride past Benham Falls and along the Deschutes for 15 miles to another resort for lunch. Close by are lava lands, lava caves, and more waterfalls.
We are a semi-retired couple with three grown children and one grandchild. Our professional backgrounds are pediatrics and speech-language pathology. We spend much of our summers in BC, Canada, on our 50 ' motoryacht boating the waters near Vancouver Island. We love to fish, bird watch, and kayak. Traveling has become a big part of our lives. We like to go where the birding is good. Lately, we have been visiting Panama a lot and brushing up on our Spanish and camera skills.
