About our home

Large, airy house on a tree-lined street in Santa Monica, with new pool and hot tub, all minutes from the beach.

The house has a modern-yet-relaxed feel - great for adults to chill while the kids run around.

The ground floor is separated into a bunch of different rooms which flow into each other. A front lounge with sofas and a working wood fireplace; a kids playroom; a big TV room and finally a large open-plan kitchen / dining-room... with huge sliding doors opening out onto the spacious backyard.

Outside, there's outdoor dining on the Ipe deck; soft seating round a table / firepit; and a sparkling new pool (21ft x 12 ft) and hot tub (7ft x 6ft). And beyond that, a grass yard for ball games or ping pong - with passionfruit and kiwi vines, and a fig tree.

Outside there's also a pool house / guest house with kitchenette, double bed, toilet and shower. As well as a garage full of boogie boards, surf boards and so on.

Back inside the main house - there's one double bedroom also downstairs. Upstairs is the big master bedroom (with balcony and large ensuite with bath) - and three more bedrooms (two with bunk beds, one with double bed).

Overall, we like to think the decor is cool without being too fussy - a relaxed SoCal vibe, as they say here...?!

The house is in a lovely residential area of Santa Monica called Sunset Park. It's very friendly - lots of families always out walking and cycling.

5 min walk to:
- two big parks with big playgrounds: Virginia Park (fountains to run around in for little kids, and farmers market on Sat mornings) and Clover Park (with 2 tennis courts etc);
- a huge 365 (Whole Foods) supermarket
- a great 'upmarket dive bar' called The Daily Pint (Phil's favorite)
- Lunetta coffee / restaurant (Lindsay's favorite).

10 min walk to:
- Santa Monica College, with its Olympic-sized pool for adults exercise ($3 per adult, $2 per child), and huge family pool for the kids.
- lots more shops and cafes on Ocean Park Blvd between 16th and 20th
- lots more restaurants on Pico Blvd between Cloverfield and 33rd

The awesome Santa Monica beach is a 15-minute bicycle ride (we have 4 adult bikes and lots of kids bikes - and plenty of boogie boards and surfboards) or 5-minute drive (easy parking at Ocean Park - $2 / 2 hours, or $10 / all day - where there's also a playground and a cafe). Water is A+ Clean Rating - we swim, boogie-board and surf all the time, all year round. You're also just a 10 min walk north along the beach or boardwalk to the famous Santa Monica pier, and the 4-block-long open-air mall at Third Street Promenade. Not to mention all the restaurants on Main St. Or walk 10-min south to Venice boardwalk, or the trendy shops on Abbot Kinney.

Exploring from Santa Monica itself - 15 mins drive up along the coast to Malibu; or 15 mins up into the hiking in the Santa Monica Mountains; or 20 mins drive into Beverly Hills. Disneyland is 45 mins away; LAX is 20 mins.
