“Sally Ann has created a magical place! We had a fabulous time in her charmingly decorated cottage. All the amenities were there including well furnished comfortable rooms. The area is near the Shenandoah National Park which we went through for 2 days. Also in the area has wonderful restaurants. It was one of our best exchanges!”

“Sally’s lovely cottage is truly a slice of heaven, and she was a pleasure to work with throughout. The cottage is well furnished, private, and wonderful views on the back deck. Would definitely stay again. ”
“LaFay cottage is absolutely precious. Every inch is decorated with charm and care. There are chandeliers in every room. The location is near the Shenandoah Skyline, so it is beautiful place to explore and hike. We splurged and ate at 2 of the prix fixe restaurants, and if I went back I would go to 3. We also enjoyed galleries and antique stores. Sally Anne was a perfect hostess and made us feel very welcome in her charming home. ”
“Everything about this swap was outstanding. Sally was an excellent host and communicator. The Cottage was perfectly clean, comfortable, and stylish. The property offered great views and was peaceful yet so close to an endless number of wineries, historical sites, and nature. We had such a great time and highly recommend this location and Sally's place. Thanks!! ”
“Right in the heart of horse, wine and fine dining country, a charming cottage. Beautifully decorated with every amenity and comfort including upscale bath essentials and luxury sheets and towels. Kitchen has everything you will need and more. Located in a quiet, country neighborhood near horse farms and a vineyard, the cottage is surrounded by pine trees and has views of Blue Ridge mountains. Good communication and tips from owner Sally Anne on excellent nearby restaurants and shops were very helpful. We enjoyed our stay!”

Neighbourhood
Rappahannock County has several small villages in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains with superb dining and lodging establishments, shops and businesses win one award after another for excellence. It is considered by those who were born here, and those who settled later, a paradise in which to live, work and play.
The Town of Washington is a National Historic Landmark and since the 1800s has been referred to as Little Washington to distinguish it from big Washington, DC., less than 70 miles away.
Little Washington is little, more like an English village than a town, with a population of less than 150 persons, not including two llamas, a flock of sheep and goats, and a dozen or so chickens who live in an ornate chicken house with stained glass windows. To get a sense of the whimsical, you can sit on a bench in the center of the town and watch farmers driving John Deere tractors loaded with hay bales go by an antique Rolls Royce or stretch limos parked near the The Inn at Little Washington.
The town’s history and architecture has elevated it to the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register. Today Washington serves as the county seat of Rappahannock County and is home not only to the famous Inn at Little Washington but also to several bed and breakfasts, shops, galleries and churches.
In July 1749, a 17-year old George Washington noted in his journal, “In the Blue Ridge Mountains . . . I laid off a town.” The young surveyor, assisted by two chain men, laid out the town of Washington in the same five-block by two-block grid that exists today.
The town was officially established by the Virginia Assembly in 1796. There are now 28 Washingtons in the United States, but this is “The First Washington of All.”
Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway, a gourmet weekend, a tour of Virginia’s finest wineries, hikes in the Shenandoah National Park, you will discover it all here in and surrounding Rappahannock in villages such as Little Washington, Flint Hill, Sperryville, Castleton, Huntly & Ammissville, Be sure to take back with you a memory of a spectacular sunset over the Blue Ridge Mountains to hold you over for what we hope will be your next visit!
