Our home was originally built in 1926 as a hunting cabin for the recently created Girard homes in the foothills of the Santa Monica Mountains. We are less than 10 minutes from the 101 Freeway, which takes you to Hollywood and Los Angeles in 20 minutes or less. You would never know we are so close to a major city, though--we are next to the Santa Monica Conservancy with major trails leading to the ocean a five-minute walk from our home. We hear coyotes howling at night and the sound of owls floating across the valley. We have a deck with a view of the Santa Monica mountains, and we walk all over our very safe and extremely quiet neighborhood every night. The house itself it gorgeous, extensively renovated with all of the modern conveniences without losing its original charm. We are also own a cabin near Idyllwild, CA in the San Bernardino National Forest. The cabin sits at a 6,000 foot elevation surrounded by pine forest and the largest granite outcropping after Yosemite. Anyone interested in hiking, rock climbing or simply gorgeous views will love our cabin, as well.
We do have three cats at our main house that will need to be cared for. We are happy to take care of anyone else's cats, as long as there are no dogs (allergic!)
Contact us if you are interested in swapping either property.
Our neighborhood is extremely tranquil. We are near the Woodland Hills Country Club, which lends an air of quiet exclusivity to the area. The homes are on winding, hilly streets near the Santa Monica foothills. We walk all over the neighborhood on a regular basis, and if you are interested in the extensive trail system that runs through the mountains (all the way to the ocean, if you are feeling ambitious), one of the trails is at the end of our street. The neighbors are uncommonly friendly and community-centered. People are out every evening walking their dogs and socializing. Some of the homes date back to the original Girard settlement from the 1920s. with their knotty pine interiors and country-cabin exteriors.
My husband works in a family-owned and operated law office as a Legal Assistant. He is currently studying for the State Bar Exam. I teach Spanish at Pierce College, one of the many Los Angeles Community Colleges. I am stepmother to my husband's daughter, a delightful 11-year-old. I have taught Spanish for the last 18 years--I am, of course, fluent in Spanish. My husband knows a little Spanish and a little French. We are a very responsible and friendly couple who love to travel and broaden our horizons. We both love to hike, read long books on World History (him) and ghosts (me). My husband builds model boats, and I take pictures of my adventures and write short stories. We are nature enthusiasts with a very soft spot for all creatures great and small. We even have a naked cat named Kenny.
