An ideal family home. Large enough to comfortably fit a large family or even two families. Master-suite with a bathroom and TV. Three other bedrooms: one with a queen-sized bed, one with two twins and a third room with one twin bed.
The ground floor consists of large, high-ceilinged rooms that flow into one another. Very large kitchen/dining room/sitting room that is ideal for family interaction and socializing. There is also a TV room on the ground floor with cable hook-up. Sepreate laundry/utility room in the back of the house on the ground floor.
Our home was built in 1903 and is in the colonial revival style with arts and crafts style detailing. It has a large wrap-around porch at the front with views of the Palisades, a beautiful natural cliff formation on the west bank of the Hudson River.
Our house is raised from the street level, so there are a couple of flights of stairs up to the front porch. However this height provides a great vantage point and terrific views, especially to the west.
No car-port, but safe on street parking.
We are Scott and Katie. We are two professional interior designers who work in New York City. We are very familiar with New York and love it but have decided to live just outside the hustle and bustle of the city. We have lived in our house for nearly 20 years and have tried to reflect our love of our home in it.
We have two beautiful and bright children. Charlotte, 17, is about to be a junior at a high school in New York City. Aubrey, our son, is 21 and will be a senior at the university of Glasgow, in Scotland. We are hoping to find a swap in Glasgow so that we can go and visit him for Thanksgiving, a holiday that we celebrate in America at the end of November.
We live in Park Hill. It is a quiet neighborhood outside of New York City. Suburban, but not typically so, it is filled with tree-lined streets and a rich diversity of architecture that ranges back to the turn of the 20th century (like ours). It exists in stark contrast to the mass-produced, rubber-stamped suburbs that are so pervasive in America today.
As with the architecture, the people who live in Park Hill are equally eclectic and diverse. It is known for a vast array of artists, writers, teachers, and filmmakers. It is also very safe and we have felt comfortable letting our children walk freely around the neighborhood ever since they were young.
Though our home is in the suburbs, New York is easily accessible. There are fast and convenient public transportation such as train, bus, and subway within a few minutes of our home. Driving into New York is also easy and quick. Though not necessary, a car is probably a good idea for getting around to things like food shopping.
