“I along with my adult daughter, close friend and her daughter have just completed the most incredible 5 night stay at Marilee's home in Oaxaca. Marilee was a fantastic communicator right from the very beginning of organising our swap which I must add was 1 year ago. She always answered my messages immediately and was so helpful in every way. We were extremely lucky that Marilee was in Oaxaca at the time of our stay. What a wonderful person she is. So warm and welcoming. Now for the house. Wow! Its amazing. The architecture/design is very Mexican so we really felt like we were on holiday in Mexico. It is large and spacious with beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms. It is exactly as the photo gallery presents. I enjoyed wandering around the home viewing the amazing collection of artifacts. The pool was lovely and we enjoyed coming back for drinks and nibbles on the terrace after a busy day touring. The house is in a great location in an upscale suburb of Oaxaca City and only 15 to 20 minutes from the beautiful colonial downtown centre. We found it so easy catching the local bus into downtown. It was inexpensive and the locals so very friendly. If you like excising there is a great fitness park right opposite Marilee's home. If you wish to self cater there is a great little supermarket right next door to the house. If you want to eat out there is a good Indian Restaurant within walking distance. There are other restaurants close by but we mainly ate downtown as we loved the centre so much. Oaxaca City is incredible and a must see when visiting Mexico. The old town has a vibe that one can not describe. Its simply fabulous. It has gracious colonial buildings, beautiful churches and town squares and an abundance of great restaurants, markets and art galleries. Make sure you partake in the 9.00 pm bike ride with music which leaves from downtown. It was a highlight of our stay. The mountains surrounding Oaxaca City are spectacular with waterfalls/water holes and incredible archaeology sites and cute little villages.
