Our house is a rustic, very charming, converted barn located in a quiet corner of the small hillside** village of Pieve di Controne, which is part of Bagni di Lucca in Northern Tuscany.

Upstairs, the main living area consists of a large open plan living, dining and kitchen area under a beautiful exposed beam roof. Downstairs, it has two bedrooms (1 queen bed, 1 double bed, seating and lots of wardrobe space) and a modern bathroom with bath, shower, sink, toilet, and bidet. The furniture throughout is very tasteful and inkeeping with the building.

Due to the thick stone walls, the house is cool in Summer and cosy in winter.

There is a private garden with fantastic views over the mountains, and down to Bagni di Lucca below. The garden has an outdoor table and benches, as well as garden chairs. There is plenty of sun during the day and fabulous sunsets over the mountains in the evening.

The house is perfect for those looking to explore Tuscany and the surrounding areas, those looking for an outdoor activity holiday, or those just wanting peace and tranquility. Lucca is 40mins, Florence 90mins, or even glamorous Portofino is only 150mins (all by car).

There is always someone on hand in the local village to meet and greet, and to help out with any issues.

Bagni di Lucca is a comune in Northern Tuscany, consisting of 25 villages and countless mountainside hamlets. It translates as "Baths of Lucca" due to its thermal springs. It became popular in the 19th Century after being known as a favourite of Napoleon's sister and also attracted writers, artists and poets to the area due to its beauty and climate. Byron and Shelley and the Barrett Brownings were among those who liked to visit.

Bagni di Lucca itself has lots to offer including great restaurants, a grocery store, a fabulous outdoor pool, hiking, rafting, mountain biking, or horseback riding. 

Pieve di Controne is one of the 25 villages of Bagni di Lucca, approx 8 kilometeres from the centre. It is perched on a mountainside giving it some of the best views in the area. Very few people live in the village and the barn is located in a quiet corner, meaning you can enjoy perfect isolation if you wish. 

We would recommend hiring a car and there is ample free parking. If you prefer to get around by public transport there is a train station with services to the airport and all major cities, and a very reliable cab service. Cost of a cab from the local train station to the house is €20 and from Pisa airport to the house is €100.

**For those who may not know (hello our American friends!), narrow and winding roads are the norm in the Italian countryside, especially in the mountains. It is a 15 minute drive up to our hillside home from the valley, Bagni di Lucca. It is then, a short walk uphill to our home from the communal parking lot... again, super typical of the area.

Our home is the coach house of a famous frescoed Tuscan villa just outside the city of Lucca ( 5kms ) and within easy reach of Florence, the sea, Siena , Chianti , Forte dei marmi and 25 minutes from Pisa airport. 
You are welcome to use the  huge  swimming pool and also the Greenset tennis court which are in the grounds of the villa. 
We are in a village with a shop and 2 restaurants within walking distance .

Stunning Tuscany - Charming Lucca

 This house is a part of our small, peaceful, artistic agriturismo nestled in the unspoiled nature of the Garfagnana in the North of Tuscany. It is isolated but not remote ( just one km. from the main road SR 445 and 1.5 km. from train station).. You can stay here and enjoy the countless possibilities that nature offers ( lovely hikes in the forest full of chestnuts, mushrooms and wildlife, mountain trails, beautiful rivers and lakes, skiing just 30 minutes up the road, horseback riding 10 minutes down the road, bike riding and much more. The house is spacious surrounded by beautiful mountain views. The ground floor has a large bedroom with a queen size bed  and a single bed (both with orthopedic mattresses) and a small bathroom with shower. A large fully equipped kitchen, sitting/dining room with open fireplace and a pullout couch. There is a lovely portico with a large wooden table for eating or relaxing outside.

First Floor has one large king-size bedroom and a lovely double bedroom with two twin beds. There is large bathroom with shower & bidet. There is a sizable anteroom with a pullout couch, wardrobe and a big refrigerator. You can enter or exit the house from this room as well.

Stunning Tuscan Historic Villa Near Lucca

Our old 17th-century farmhouse is part of the Villa Torrigiani Estate, it is set in one of the most beautiful areas around the Lucchesian countryside.
It has a lovely outdoor swimming pool 6mx12m, with a stunning view towards Lucca and the Apennines. by the pool, there is a pleasant setting area where you can enjoy your meals, and a few hammocks to rest in, and 3 swings for the children
By the house, there is an old pizza oven, which is still functioning very well, with plenty of wood for you to use.
As you enter the ground floor of the house there is the entrance hall, to your right, there is the sitting room with TV and DVD player and plenty of movies for you to watch, then there is a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and a reading room:
Upstairs there are 5 bedrooms,1 double room with ensuite bathroom, 2 double rooms, and 2 single rooms, that share the second bathroom.
It is a very characteristic house with still the old wooden beams and terracotta tiles both on the ceiling and on the floor. 
We also have a pony and Horse, which normally we send on vacation to our nearby riding school, then if you feel like feeding while we are away our peacocks,chickens, and rabbits you are very welcome to do so, otherwise our next door neighbor can do it.

The house is of the 17th century, immersed in a 4.5 heactres of olive grove.

La Roccia, dating from 1743, is a beautiful, serene Tuscan farmhouse, tastefully decorated with a mix of modern and antique furniture. It is across the courtyard from our full-time home and is equally as loved and cherished, so doesn't feel like a characterless holiday home. 

Downstairs there is a large eat-in kitchen with marble worktops, wooden cabinetry and a fully beamed ceiling. The kitchen has a dishwasher and a working fireplace. On the ground floor there is also a bedroom with twin beds and a separate bathroom with a large shower.

Up the spiral staircase, you'll find a double living and dining room with attractive antique furniture and an original beamed ceiling. There is also lovely double bedroom with a view over the courtyard. On this floor there is a second bathroom with a new, very large, walk in shower.

You'll have exclusive use of the lovely courtyard, with views up through the olive terraces. From the courtyard, you'll maybe see our family of resident deer. There is also a rear, private terrace. 

Our home is set in nine acres of olive terraces and woodland, which you're free to explore. There is a small swimming pool, remodelled in Spring 2022, open May to September. Also a laundry room.

Our home is 18 km from the magnificent Medieval and Renaissance city of Lucca; 70 minutes from Florence / Firenze; 45 minutes from Pisa, the Versilian Riviera and the smart beach resort of Forte dei Marmi; and within two hours of Siena and southern Tuscany. A car is essential.
