Our sunny and spacious two-storey villa is located in the heart of Ubud, Bali, just a five minute walk into the centre of town. Featuring two bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, an open and closed living area and fully-equipped kitchen, it has all the creature comforts of a modern home set amongst a gorgeous jungle backdrop. The infinity pool overlooks a river below. 

The house is a private dwelling set at the back of the Baruna Sari Villas guesthouses, so you have absolute privacy but peace of mind knowing that staff are close by. We employ our own maid and gardener who clean twice-weekly. Just 100m from one of Ubud's main streets, you can easily walk into town or arrange a GoCar or private driver for locations outside of Ubud central. 

We have swapped with folks from Australia and Europe previously, and always received lovely feedback about our home. We don't AirBNB or short-term rent our place, so we take loving care of it and do the same for any places we are fortunate enough to stay in. Please get in touch!

Experience living in the heart of a local village while only a 20min walk or 5min bike to Ubud. Ideal place to relax and explore the fascinating culture of Bali. 

Our house in Nyuh Kuning has a spacious upstairs studio sleeping 2 adults and 1 young children plus a seperate self contained poolside bungalow which suits a couple or older children.  Perfect for a family or friends travelling together.

Upstairs Studio (70m2)
This spectacular studio is a gallery of Indonesian textiles and art with a huge daybed looking out to a bamboo tropical garden. The windows and floor are recycled Indonesian hardwood.  It has a stainless-steel kitchen, oven, pantry and many appliances. The light-filled bathroom has a bath & separate shower.

The studio has two air-conditioning units so you can adjust the temperature to your needs but also has fans and lots of windows to allow airflow.  All beds are fitted with mosquito nets.

Poolside Bungalow (40m2)
The self contained bungalow is built from recycled timber, it was once and old bridge in Kalimantan. There is a bedroom upstairs with a queen size bed, downstairs a bathroom and open style kitchen and living area right next to the pool. Perfect place to relax with a book between swims.

The bedroom is fitted with air conditioning and also has a mosquito net. The downstairs space is open to the garden and pool. 

The swimming pool is set amongst the tropical garden and stays cool as it is deep and small. Perfect way to cool off throughout the day. The pool is NOT fenced.

We are located in the heart of the village so it is not a silent location. Sounds of voices and the hustle and bustle of village life can be heard throughout the day.  Between 8-10am the local pre-school can be noisy with children singing, making music and laughing.  It is the perfect time to visit the local cafes for breakfast.

Ibu Ketut cleans and looks after the house most days. Pak Nyoman maintains the property and is available for advice, help, local knowledge and the best rice paddy guide around. If you ask they may welcome you to visit their temple and share what Balinese life is like.  Nyoman and Ketut love meeting travellers and have become life-long friends with many of our passed guests.  They live 5 minutes away and will make your stay in Bali one to remember.

Nyuh Kuning Village, south of Ubud

Nyuh Kuning is the village on the south side of the Sacred Monkey Forest, with a bike/walking path leading to Ubud, 20 minutes on foot, 5 minutes by bike.

It has a great selection of local and international restaurants/cafes as well as numerous Balinese warongs serving tasty local cuisine. Two minutes walk away is a great coffee shop, Old Friends, run by a Balinese coffee farmer (Pak Made) serving international quality coffee. It offers a hub for Nyuh Kuning socialising. There is also a venue, Bali Bohemia, with regular local & international live music and a weekly open mic night attracting an eclectic & often ecstatic crowd! 

During the season there are football games on the field in the centre of the village and gentle gamelan music can often be heard from the temple.

Nyuh Kuning has a yoga studio run by Pak Ketut offering his own style of yoga based on Kundalini, Iyengar, Ashtanga and Hatha Yoga. The classes are conducted in a mixture of Indonesia & English. While many of the practitioners are local, visitors to the island are welcome. Ketut is an internationally recognised yoga & meditation instructor & his giggle is infectious! "Ubud Yoga Centre' & 'Movement Matters Pilates' are also located in the village and the famous Yoga Barn is a 20 minute walk away.

The Sacred Monkey Forest is located at the end of the street. It is a magical place to meet the monkeys and also to wonder in the cool climate maintained by the magnificent trees. Ubud centre is found on the other side of the forest.

Exotic & Spacious: Studio plus Poolside Bungalow

Our place in Ubud is called Stone House....it's been several years of our blood, sweat and tears. 

My husband is an entrepreneur, furniture designer and is on a life-long quest to create beautiful things. I am a travel writer and whimsical artist. As such, we have painstakingly been building our property for over  several years and have now created a rambling estate. Adjacent to the main house, is a gorgeous free-form 18m swimming pool, surrounded by stunning landscaping. Surrounding the pool are three uniquely designed rooms which can accommodate a total of eight people. The Longhouse is a wooden villa built entirely of reclaimed wood, which sits on stilts and juts into the jungle. It is quite dramatic, as it perches over a small river, with a view of the rice paddies just a few meters away.

The style is authentic Balinese, rustic chic, with a touch of luxury. Since my husband is a creator of all sorts, all of the furniture has been hand-crafted by our carpenters and made in our workshop. As such, the entire property has been custom-designed by him.  Everything has been carefully curated by both of us. Since we love to travel and buy all sorts of treasures, you'll find interesting artwork, sculptures, antiques and textiles that all have a story and a soul.

It is ideal for a couple looking for a private retreat, or small family requiring a few rooms, or someone who wants to enjoy all that Ubud has to offer; museums, temples, or a plethora of wellness activities. During your stay, you will be well looked after by our team of attentive and discreet staff who have worked with us for years; housekeepers, cook, grounds manager and driver. They are dedicated to looking after you to create a truly memorable and luxurious experience in Bali. 

We have one daughter who attends an innovative, sustainable, all bamboo school in the jungle...Green School. Our royal mascots Lulu and Bella, love playing fetch, or having their belly rubbed. We hope you love dogs too.

Our place is a boutique b & b and depending upon the number of guests in your group, we DO NOT swap our entire place as we have just added two new rooms called Treehouse and Farmhouse, totaling six guest rooms. 

We  offer our Longhouse guest suite (which is a separate free-standing room with three porches) featured on our site for a couple (the most private, free-standing house with three porches at Stone House), or our entire place if you are traveling with a large family. We always swap the amount of rooms required to accommodate our /your swap....to be discussed during our correspondence.

Our place comes fully staffed with a team of 16; manager, housekeepers, two chefs, driver, gardeners, and nighttime security. As such, we ask all of our swap guests to pay US$30 per night/per bedroom which includes the most amazing breakfast you can imagine and service charge which is split amongst our staff. Our staff will look after you during your visit here. Should you wish, they will make the most delicious breakfasts for you and make you feel like this is your home away from home during your stay.

Rustic chic, wooden and stone house in Ubud...

A fantastically located hidden gem, our romantic, architect-designed 130sqm one-bedroom home offers the magic of open-air Bali-style tropical living a short, gentle stroll away from Ubud's myriad temples, galleries, restaurants, boutiques, spas, yoga centres (yet worlds away from the bustle of the main streets). 
Overlooking the family temple next door, the open-sided, fan-cooled 7m x 6m living area with its high vaulted ceiling and fish pond incorporates a casual lounging area, dining area with antique teakwood table and seating for six, and a well-equipped kitchen. Up a few steps is the 4m x 5m air-conditioned and fan-cooled bedroom, with comfortable super-kingsize bed dressed in fine cotton bed-linen, a dressing alcove with shelving and hanging area, and a garden bathroom. Sliding doors in front of the bed open onto a terrace with seating,  facing a moss-covered Buddha statue and surrounded by tropical blooms.

Throughout, contemporary details like polished concrete walls and textured stone floors mix with traditional twists such as antique Javanese doors, reclaimed ironwood counters ,heritage tiles and stone statues. 

A small hotel two minutes down the lane will let you use their pool for a small daily charge, and there are several 'destination' pools elsewhere in Ubud. 

Our staff will take care of cleaning and gardening. (For like-for-like swaps, they are included, but for points trips we do ask for a modest contribution of US$10 a day.) You can also engage our housekeeper to cook for you (everything from a simple meal to a multi-course Indonesian buffet), or stage a cooking class for you; many of our guests say her food is the best they had in Indonesia! We can organise a massage for you in the villa, organise scooter hire, and also introduce you to a reliable and charming driver for airport pick-up and fascinating day trips.

Heart-of-Ubud 1-bedroom gem

Our beautiful tropical home is located in Ubud, Bali's cultural and spiritual heart. Serene, private and secure, it enjoys a glorious garden setting only five minute's walk to Ubud's restaurants, boutiques, and yoga centres, yet worlds away from the bustle of the main streets. 

There's an open living area with seating, dining area and well equipped kitchen; air-conditioned master bedroom and ensuite bathroom opening onto a private walled garden with yoga platform and fish pond; and a guest room with indoor/outdoor bathroom. Within the garden is a joglo (traditional Javanese teakwood building) containing a third bedroom and bathroom.

The infinity swimming pool is set in delightful tropical gardens shaded by palms, frangipanis and bursting with heliconia and hibiscus blooms. There are two loungers and a parasol on the reclaimed ironwood deck, as well as an all-weather rattan breakfast table and four armchairs. 

The villa comes with delightful staff who take care of the housekeeping, gardening and pool cleaning. Wayan will shop for provisions (on your account) and make a beautiful tropical breakfast for you  – her banana pancakes are legendary. For a modest fee she will also cook dinner for you (everything from a simple meal to a multi-course Indonesian buffet); many of our guests have commented that her food is the best they tasted in Indonesia! We can organise a massage for you in the villa, and also introduce you to a reliable and charming driver for airport pick-up and fascinating day trips.

This really is a delightfully hidden part of Ubud - even long-term residents are surprised to find such a tranquil garden villa so close to the centre, with its many restaurants, cafes, shops and galleries! There's so much going on in Ubud. As Bali's holistic wellbeing centre, it offers lots of yoga classes, spiritually focused and personal development courses, healers and therapists. As the island's cultural centre, there's a full schedule of temple ceremonies, gallery opening, art and dance classes and cookery schools.

We have also built next door a beautiful yoga shala which you are free to use. 
Nearby Ubud is Bali's famous cultural hub, complete with art galleries, handicraft shops, spas and hundreds of restaurants and cafes with Indonesian & world cuisine. Ubud is also the wellbeing and spiritual centre of Bali, with lots of options for yoga and healing.
